Mind Your Business- Part 9

Sakshi looked at her brother. He looked lost. It seemed as if he was not here. There was something going in his mind. "What happened, Vicky?", she asked. Vicky replied,"Nothing!" He walked away hurriedly. There was definitely something he was hiding. "What is he hiding? Why is he not sharing it?",she thought.

"He's been acting strangely since the morning.", Sheila spoke. "I asked him so many times. He didn't say anything.", she continued. "I felt the same. I will talk to him in sometime.", Sakshi said. The sun set down. The sky turned violet pink to dark blue with moon and stars shining bright. It was the time for the devil to wake up from it's slumber.

Everything looked normal. Sakshi had forgotten the afternoon ordeal. Everyone were busy with fun activities. After playing game of UNO, they began watching a movie. It was a comedy movie. Everyone were having fun oblivious of what was going to happen next. It was silence before storm.

In midst of watching a movie, the voices of actors in the movie became deeper. It was masculine femine mixture. Shekhar switched off and on the TV to check what was wrong. It was still the same. Then he tried to flip the channels to see whether voices in other channel were the same. It was same. The kids got scared while the adults were surprised. Shekhar switched off TV to ward off the children's fear.

Suddenly lights began to flicker. The TV automatically switched on. The channel began to change automatically. A deep voice screamed from nowhere. Everything including the whole house started shake. Everyone cried in fear. They held each other and stood in center of the house. The children were protected by human chain formed by Sakshi. Sheila noticed that they had forgotten to get their mother who was resting in her room.

"What about mother? She is in the room. Someone, go and get her.", she cried. When Shekhar was about to bring her, mother arrived from her room. Her hair was untied in bun like she used to. Her eyes were red. She stomped towards Sheila and screamed in unrecognizable voice. It wasn't her. She was breathing heavily. The flares of wrath blew from her nose. Sheila was stunned.

Mind Your Business - Part 8

She touched her face. Her eyes, ears, nose and mouth were all there. Vicky and Sheila rushed towards her. "What happened ?", Sheila inquired. Sakshi didn't say anything. She was in shock. She couldn't believe her eyes. "I must be dreaming.", she said aloud. "What?", Sheila asked. "I must have seen a nightmare. My face was deformed. There was no nose, no ears, no eyes.. nothing.", Sakshi said. She took huge breath to relieve herself.

Sheila hugged her and consoled," It was a bad dream. You had a hard day." Vicky was pained to see his family in this situation. He knew it was not a dream. He had to let them know this dark secret. He couldn't hold it any longer. "It's not a dream. It's real. The spirit is one who is causing all this.",he said shakingly.

"Why are you scaring her? She is already scared.", Sheila scolded him. He didn't stop. "I am saying the truth. First it killed Ronny, then it tried to hurt me and mother .Now it's trying to scare Sakshi. I don't know what it is. I don't know why it is doing or what it wants.", he continued, turning his back at both women.

Sakshi pulled his hand and dragged him to face her.  "Tell me what happened at the trip you had taken with your friends. You said you were visiting Jog falls with your friends. Where did you go?", she asked firmly. "I didn't go to Jog falls. I had gone to small house outskirts of the city. There was a room that was haunted by a spirit as per folklore.", he said.

He narrated everything that had happened in the haunted room. "It was adventure. We wanted to have fun. We wanted to do something different.", he concluded his story. . "Fun! Adventure! You lost a friend! Who goes to haunted place to have fun? I don't know what you bought in.", Sakshi said. She slapped him

He woke up to the reality. It was a dream. He was dreaming about his confrontation with his sister. He knew his sister would either slap him or disown him or not believe him. He wished he could share his concerns and worries openly with his family. But he was scared to utter anything.

Mind Your Business - Part 7

Their mother cried in pain while everyone tried to ask her the reason of pain. She had never spoken a word since many years. It was usually through the sign language , she would convey her message. Today was not different. She tried best to show what had happened to her. But no one could understand.

They could sense the physical pain. But there was something serious which remain invisible to others in the family except Vicky. Vicky remained silent. They called the doctor. However the doctor couldn't find the source of the pain. He offered medication to heal her physical pain.

Everyone was back to routine next morning. However Vicky acted strange. He hardly touched his food or spoke to anyone. He was disturbed by his mother's pain. He knew what caused her pain. But he was scared that no one would believe him. He was frustrated that he couldn't help his mother.

Sakshi was with her kids during the morning. She had been engaged completely with Vicky. She didn't want her kids to be burden on Sheila. She was managing too many people. She had hired a babysitter to take care the kids. She missed her kids. She didn't like this arrangement. But she had no choice. Vicky was her priority now.

Sheila was tired of convincing Vicky to have something.Vicky was stubborn. He didn't listen. He stayed aloof the whole day. Sakshi's arrival was relief to her. "I have been asking him to have something. But he is not listening. He is acting strange lately.", she said. Sakshi smiled. Sakshi played with his hair and walked into the kitchen.

She got lunch ready for him. She helped him with the lunch like a mother helping the kid to have lunch. "Oh! So you will have food from Sakshi. But not from me.", Sheila teased. Sakshi smiled. Vicky didn't react. "Sorry. Atleast you had food.", Sheila said and gently patted him.

As Sakshi washed her hands in bathroom, suddenly she looked at the mirror. The mirror reflection of her had no nose, no ears , no mouth and no eyes. She had no facial features. She screamed and rushed out of the bathroom.

Mind your Business - Part 6

His mother's lap was heaven to his soul. He felt all his problems were going to vanish. Everything would be normal now. It was a thought. A son's trust on his mother. She was his solace in this torment situation.  But she stayed quiet. She sat still. She didn't caress him or spoke any encouraging words. She has been sitting still since many years. Suddenly she screamed in fear and pushed his face away from his lap.

Sheila consoled mother and fed her. She helped mother toward her room and helped her to sit on the bed. She assisted her with medication and helped her to sleep on the bed.  Mother was asleep in few minutes.

He sobbed while his face was bent down. Sakshi touched his forehead and patted him. She picked him gently and helped him sit next to his mother. "Don't worry. We are here for you", she said. Everyone pampered him with good food and love.  After dinner, they chatted on times they missed out as family and future plans. The time passed quickly.

"Vicky, you need to have good rest. You are not well. You need to have good sleep.", Sheila said. Vicky shivered at the word 'sleep'. He didn't want to sleep. He didn't want to go to the room. He was paranoid. "Well, I was having great time. I am not feeling sleepy. I already slept too much.", Vicky said meekly. " I know, but you need good sleep and others are also sleepy. We have whole day tomorrow. We will have fun tomorrow.", Sakshi said.

Vicky was tensed. As he slowly walked towards the room, Vicky said nervously, "I don't want to sleep alone. I am scared."  Everyone smiled at each other while kids innocently asked,"Are you scared that ghosts will come out of bed to scare you?" Vicky froze. "Go to your room, kids.", Shekhar said gently but bit firmly.

After the kids scooted to their room to sleep, Shekhar said, "I will sleep with you." He escorted Vicky to his room while Sakshi and Sheila exchanged looks at each other. While everyone were in deep slumber, something bothered the mother. Her bed constantly shook side to side. She tried to stay on the bed still. She was scared. She screamed. But there was no voice. Suddenly something pulled her up. Her body was suspended in the air. Later her body fell on the bed with thud. She screamed in pain. Everyone rushed towards her room to see what had happened.

Mind Your Business - Part 5

It was time for dinner. All the family members gathered at the dinning table. The unofficial head of the house, the mother sat at one end of the table. She had spinal disorder which made her life like vegetable. It was one unfateful day when she was trying to save her mischievous little Vicky from falling from the balcony that cost her life. Since that day, Vicky has been very close to her.

Sakshi and the eldest brother Shekhar were the official caretaker of the family until Sheila came into Shekhar's life. Sheila single-handedly took the reigns of managing the family from Sakshi and Shekhar. She was important part of everyone's life. Mother was hugely dependent on Sheila. Sheila was like her right hand. Sometimes Sakshi would take time from her busy schedule of managing her work and being single mother to her kids. Shekhar focused completely at work. There were times when Shekhar would assist Sheila and advised her to start her career. But Sheila was Sheila , she found solace in taking care of every small needs of the family.

It was one big happy family. Now with Vicky being present, the family was complete. Everyone waited patiently for Vicky. He had not arrived. "Did you call Vicky, Shekhar?", Sheila asked. "Yes I did. He said he would come and asked me to go.", Shekhar replied. "I will bring him.", Sakshi said. When she reached his room, she heard some muffled voices inside. She didn't waste time to get inside the room. It was biting cold. She switched on the light and was about to switch off the fan. She was surprised. The fan was not switched on. She wondered, "Why is it strangely cold?"

She looked for Vicky. Vicky was not on the bed. He was lying on the ground in fetus position.  He had covered himself completely inside the blanket. He made soft weeping sounds inside the blanket. She tried to pull the blanket from him. He held it very tightly. "It's me, Sakshi.", she said gently. He pushed blanket from his face.

"Why are you sleeping on the ground? ", she asked, gently helping him to get on his feet. "He has become so weak.", she thought, while remembering his fitness freak days. He was healthy. "There is something on the bed.", he said, while trying to avoid eye contact on the bed. She felt strange. She looked at the bed. "There is nothing on the bed.", she said  "Come, you must be hungry.", she continued as they walked out of the bed.

As they switched off the light and closed the door behind them, the lights were switched on itself. A black apparition circled on the bed. Vicky was greeted by the rest of the family with smile and eagerness. His nephew and niece fought for his attention and who was going to sit next to him. Shekhar hugged him. However Vicky didn't hug. After the hug, he simply rushed towards his mother. He lay his head on her lap and said, "Ma, help me." Tiny drops rolled out of his eyes.

Mind Your Business - Part 4

Vicky got out of the car. He stood still. He watched the house whilst remembering the times he spent as the kid. The walls of the house was painted fresh but it showed how much it overbore the hard times. Each windows and door spoke stories of love, mischief and pain. Vicky felt pinch of grief of staying away from his family abode. Staying away from home helped him achieve his dreams, but he was faraway from his loved ones.

Now he was home. He was safe. He thought so.  Suddenly, cold breeze blew gently across Vicky.black apparition was behind him. It wasn't going to leave him so easily.  He crossed his arms over his chest tightly to overcome the freezing cold. He shivered continuously.  Sakshi rushed out of the car towards him. She held him and walked towards the main door of the house. After quick ring on the bell, their sister in law, Sheila opened the door with warm smile.

But her warm smile disappeared, a concerned look took over her face. "Why are you shivering so much? Let me check whether you have fever.", she said. Sakshi helped him to sit on the couch and offered a glass of water. Sheila bought the thermometer to his mouth to check his temperature. When she took out the thermometer to read, she threw it down due to extreme heat. The contains of thermometer spilled on the floor. Everyone were shocked.

"I will call the doctor", she said, rushing towards the phone. Sakshi helped him towards his room and laid him on the bed.She helped him change clothes to night pyjamas. She covered him plenty of blankets to help him from constant shivering. She left him to rest. After an hour, Sakshi and Sheila arrived with the doctor. The doctor performed a check up and prescribed medicines and diet for high fever. He asked them to give him complete rest.

Sakshi and Sheila never left Vicky's side. They constantly gave him food, water and medication whenever he woke up. When he slept, they sat on the sofa in living room and discussed about his issue. "It's good you bought him here. He will be okay now.", Sheila spoke.  "I hope so. He has become lifeless. He keeps blaming himself for his friend's death. We should have not let him stay alone at that time.", Sakshi said. " We can't change what has happened. Now he's with us. We will help him get back his old self.", Shiela said with warm smile.

As they discussed, a black apparition circled Vicky madly like a scavenger. Vicky could feel it's presence.  He couldn't scream. His voice was held by the mad demon. He cried softly, eating his tears.

Mind Your Business - Part 3

He had huge dark circles under his eyes. His eyes were red due to lack of sleep. He had slight hunch on his back. His lips were dry. He looked ghost himself. The woman shrieked, looking at his physical condition. "What happened to you, Vicky?", she asked, as she touched his face. Her touch was motherly. Instantly he almost fell over her.

She held him still as well as close the door behind them. She helped him towards the sofa where she laid him there. She poured glass of water from jar on the dinning table. She helped him to drink like a mother helping her small child. He was like her child. He was her little brother and youngest in the family.

In this hassle, she had forgotten to notice something. She felt strange chill inside the house. It wasn't winter yet. The AC wasn't switched on. There was no windows open for cold wind to pass through. "Are you fine, Vicky?", she asked. He stayed quiet. She sat next to him and touched his hand. "You are not meeting anyone. You are not talking to anyone. I heard that you left your job. You are not even picking my call. What's wrong?", she said. There was no answer.

"I am your sister. You can share anything with me. I am here for you.", she said. Vicky broke into tears. He cried like a baby. She didn't stop him. She rubbed his back gently to let him relax. When he stopped, he spoke,"I feel there is something wrong with me, Sakshi. I lost my best friend because of my silliness. Now nothing is going right in my life. I can't go out of this house. Something is not letting me leave. It's trapping me inside. It's killing me slowly."

Sakshi felt bad for her brother. She knew how he adored Ronny. They were like two pods in a pea. Vicky was blaming himself for Ronny's death since six months. He had not forgiven himself. He had confined himself in the house. She thought that he would come out of his shell if he was surrounded with people than walls. She decided to take him home with her. She felt he would slowly let go of his guilt if he was with his family.

"You are coming home with me.", she said. "But ..why?", he asked. She said, "No buts! No why! You are just coming." She helped him pack his bag. As he reached the door, he tried to twist the knob with fear. He looked tensed and turned behind to see several times. Sakshi sensed that something was wrong with Vicky. He had become extremely fearful. "There is no one. Let's go.", she said, helping him open the door. She was wrong. A black apparition followed them as they left the house.

Mind Your Business - Part 2

                                                               **** 6 months later ****

It was already past 3 am. Sleep didn't seem to favor Vicky tonight. He counted the numbers from backward, sang lullaby to himself, walked to and forth from his bed to bathroom etc to get back to sleep.

After many trials, he decided to watch some slow videos to get back to sleep. He surfed through YouTube to watch some videos. He zeroed on the slow romantic song. It was a sensual video where a beautiful girl was draped in only white satin cloth, sitting on the wooden patio while waiting for her lover. A soft song played in the background.

Sleep began to possess him slowly. As he was about to close his laptop, he felt someone breathing next to him. He turned slowly to see who it was. It was the same lady who was in the video he watched few seconds back. She was sitting next to him and smiled at him

He turned white and numb. "I am dreaming!", he thought as he pinched himself. The pinch stung him. It was real. Suddenly she disappeared in thin air. "What was that!", he thought. He began to perspire due to fright. His laptop switched on itself. The images of the girl in the video reflected on the Google image page while the song played in the background.

Vicky pushed his laptop aside and jumped out of his bed. He rushed towards the door of his bedroom. But something caught his leg, making him fall to the ground. He cried due to pain. He rose up slowly. As he touched the door knob to open the door, something pulled him back and shut the door. His loud shriek could be heard from behind the door.

Next morning, a woman arrived at his doorstep. She wore plain salwars with mismatched sandals and no make up. She looked concerned. She banged the door. There was no answer. She called his phone. There was still no answer. Suddenly he opened the door.

Mind Your Business - Part 1

The room was dark, eerie and cold. There were few furniture covered with dust laden cloth. The air spoke the story of past to the visitors who dared to step inside. The visitors were ameteur ghost busters.

As they explored the room, they searched for the hints of the hauntings. They had heard from old folklore that demonic spirit was haunting this unfortunate  room of abandoned house for many years and it would capture the one who ventured inside.

The room was heavily  locked by metal locks and chantings. However it was easily broken by  Vikas, the brave one amongst these ameteur ghost busters. His friends were against the idea of breaking the lock. But Vicky was blinded by his hunger for adventure. He didn’t realise the danger lurking behind the door.

After few minutes of investigation,Vicky joked, “You guys were simply getting scared. I think, there is no such spirits here. It's just an old abandoned house and nothing else."  Everyone agreed and decided to leave except his best friend, Ronny. Ronny's face was bent down. He was unusually quiet. "What's the matter, Ronny?", one of his friends asked.

Suddenly Ronny raised his face slowly. He screamed in unrecognizable voice. His voice was coarse. There was mixture of feminine and masculine tone. Everyone covered their ears in quick reaction to the unbearable sound. In few minutes, he stopped. What followed after strange silence shook everyone. He twisted his neck, breaking the source of life connecting his brain to his body. He fell instantly to the ground.

Vicky was more shocked than others after watching his friend die in front of him. He stood still until one of his friends dragged him away from the room.  They thought they were safe. Unfortunately something was following him.

The Untouchable-Part 16

She was engrossed in her world. Her mind was filled with thoughts and memories of him. The rings of her phone bought her back to the reality. It was him. After hesitating for few minutes, she answered the call. The call was brief. "Hi, How are you?", he asked. "I am fine.", she spoke, trying to hide her tears and grief. But Varun could sense it. He didn't ask instead he said, "I wanted to inform you about tomorrow's press conference. I have explained everything to your manager. He will let you know about everything regarding conference."

She couldn't bear the pain anymore. She cut the call before he could speak longer. The pain was terrible. Their night was sleepless one. The morning was no better. Roop was physically occupied by her mother and manager's constant inputs of what was she expected to speak and what questions she would be asked. However her mind and heart was with him.

Varun was disturbed. He wondered about her sudden change of behaviour. He had kept himself busy with work, trying to keep himself away from her. But it was not working. It pained him. It hurt her. It was wounding their special relationship. He didn't want to lose one good friend.

Varun and Roop arrived together while the producer, lead actor and the media waited for them. As they walked toward the main stage, they momentarily glanced each other. They were searching love in each other's eyes but reality forbade them to indulge deeper. Anant sat between them.

The questions hit them like arrows. It started with questions regarding the movie, future projects and memories regarding the shooting. Later it got diverted towards their relationship. Roop was uncomfortable. She tried to avoid some of them. "Are Varun and Roop dating?", one of reporters asked. "We are good friends. We share cordial professional relationship with her. Apart from that, there is nothing.", Varun said, the words broke his heart as well as Roop. She watched him. Her heart was breaking. She should have known from the start. There would be no spark between them.

"Yes, that's true. Apart from work relationship, we don't share anything.", Roop said bitterly. "Any chances of you working with him again?", one of journalist asked. "I don't know about future. I only live in present. Can we talk about this movie for now?", she replied. The press conference was success. With the months passing by, the news about them was fading slowly. The movie was success. Roop regained her position back. Varun got his foothold right on the industry. They hardly meet eye to eye when they are in any function. But their hearts silently ache for the special memories they shared together.

The Untouchable - Part 15

The shoot was over. The post production activities started. Her mother watched her suffer. She hardly spoke to anyone. She had turned into her old self. She became cold. Her smile had vanished. The glow in her eyes were fading. It was now filled with pain. Since the last interaction with her mother, she had consciously distanced herself from him and everyone else.

She wanted to speak to him. But her mother's words hit her and her courage vanished. She didn't dare to speak to him. She was in turmoil of promises she had made to her mother before she had entered the stardom. She had promised her mother she would never leave her.

Varun secretly watched her whenever he had the opportunity. He was disturbed by her cold demeanor.  He  wanted to know what was disturbing her. But he couldn't muster the courage to speak to her. He had tried to break out of this so called ' promise' he made to himself. He couldn't. Every time he thought of speaking to her, he was reminded of the harsh words of his uncle. Those words bought in memories of the sweat and pain he had put into his debut movie.

The promotions of movie had begun. They were present for all the promotional events. Their interaction with the media was professional. There was no show of bonding between each other. Their friendship was severely affected by the new relationship both wanted. But paparazzi and page 3 journalists were behind their romance. They didn't stop their comments on their relationship. This affected both of them.

Varun was busy scheduling the dates for next promotional event while his uncle Anant stormed into his cabin. "I need you to settle this. No one seems to be interested with the movie. They are only behind your relationship with Roop. I want you to clear this tomorrow. I have invited everyone for press conference. I want you to get them focus on the movie.", Anant said sternly.

Varun didn't speak. He was too tired. A good rest was what he needed.

The Untouchable - Part 14

Varun was disturbed. His uncle was right. He had put his blood and sweat into his dream. He didn't want to ruin his hard work for love when he was this close in realising the dream. But love! Love was also important to him.

He thought about her. She made him feel special when they were together. He was his true self when he was with her. He missed her smile ,  bubbliness and innocence when she was not her.

Anant watched his nephew. He could see him losing himself in love. He had to stop him.  "But I love her. How can she be disgrace to my career? Love is special. Love is strength...not weakness. ", Varun cried.

"Son, how should I explain you! Love is indeed strength. But this is not right time to fall in love. You have just started out and she is not right for you.",Anant argued. "There is no right time or right person to fall in love. There is nothing right or wrong in love. Love is pure.",Varun protested.

"Enough! I am tired of explaining you what is right for you. You are not understanding my advise. You are blinded by false attraction.  If you continue with this so called relationship, I will cut off all the funds I have put in your project. I will believe that I am nothing important to you. I will no longer give you my advises. You are on your own from now on.", Anant said in firm voice.

Varun was struck by the blow hit by his uncle. He walked out of room. He was angry, confused and distraught. He loved his uncle as well as Roop. He wished he didn't had to make choices. He didn't want to leave both of them. As the last day of shoot continued, there was deep silence between Varun and Roop. They hardly spoke. They focused their anxious mind towards their work. Both of them wanted to break the silence but were tied by shackles of promises and thoughts.

The Untouchable - Part 13

It was his uncle. He had expected her. He was disappointed but didn't lose hope. He smiled, hiding his disappointment perfectly. "What's up?",he asked. "I wanted to discuss about promotional activities.",Anant said. Anant looked suspiciously at the bouquet of flowers on the table.

Anant couldn't contain his suspiciousness and asked immediately,"What are these flowers for?" Varun was startled. His mouth was dry. His mind was blank. His heart was filled with anxiety. He neither wanted to lie nor wanted to say anything.  He wanted to share his feelings with her first.

"Oh now I know ! Who is that lucky girl? Won't you say anything to your favourite uncle?", Anant teased. Varun blushed and excitedly said," Roop" Anant was shocked. "What! You must be joking !", Anant exclaimed. Varun smiled, "It's true. I love her." "Why? I mean this is wrong. She is an actress. ", Anant said coldly.

"Why is it wrong to love an actress? What's big deal in loving her? She's human being. A loving human being whom I care so much.", he said softly. "This is not right! Forget her. She is a fading star. You have just started out.  This is her gimmick to be in limelight.",Anant spoke sternly.

"How could you say this ? She is not a cheap person. She would never do such a thing. You should be ashamed of accusing her of doing any cheap tactics. I love her. You know nothing about love. ", Varun growled. "Calm down! I am not accusing her. You don't understand how this industry works. Everyone wants piece of  success and  fame. They will do anything to achieve ..",Anant said. Before Anant could even complete any sentence, Varun yelled, "Uncle ! Stop it!"

"I am only saying for your own good. Does she feel the same way as you are?", Anant asked. Varun replied, "No!" "You don't know whether she feels the same way. It's not too late. Don't ruin your career for girl. Link ups are not good for you right now. Your career will be overshadowed by fading star's name. You maybe remembered right now. But tomorrow you will be forgotten. Do you want to give up your dreams for girl who you are not sure whether she loves you or not?", Anant advised.

The Untouchable - Part 12

She wanted burst out her anger. Instead she asked gently, "Mom, why? I love him. He isn't like the others. He understands me. He cares about me." "Don't be stupid. Don't act naive. Your career is almost on brink. One stupid decision can spoil your years of hard work.  Love may seem rosy now. It will fade within few days. If it doesn't work, tabloid will tag us as failure. You won't get one more chance to redeem yourself while your director lover will be romancing with new actress.", her mom spoke harshly.

Her mother's words stung her heart. "Why do you think our love will fail? Just because you didn't find true love , it doesn't mean I won't. Stop overreacting , mom!", she argued.  She quickly apologised when she realised what she had said.

"It's okay, darling. So does he mutually shares the same feeling as you do?", her mom asked. "No. I am going to ask him.",Roop said. "You are assuming that he loves you! He is debut director. This is his first movie. He is simply giving you special treatment because you are first actress he is working with. If you are smart enough, don't let him know about your crush. Forget him. Move on. You have career on stake. Love will come and go. Once your career will take backseat, you can't revive it back. ", her mother said.

"But mom....", she was about to say something but kept quiet. She thought deeply  , "What if I am assuming his friendliness with love? What if he doesn't feel the same way? What if mom was right ? I am not sure what he feels. God , why is this too hard?" "You are not teenager . You are a star. You have many things at stake. You can't lose it for some puppy love that you are not sure. ", her mother adviced. "I have always adviced you right. Forget him. Focus on your career.", her mom continued.

Nothing felt so right than today. Varun had decided to share his feelings today. He didn't want to mess it up. He was going to share no matter what happens. He brushed the petals of roses from the bouquet of roses that he bought. He smiled at the thought of how it was going to be.

" Would she blush or smile when I say those three special words? Would she be mad?", he thought as every second of time passed and moment was coming closer. Suddenly he felt a presence behind him. He turned and was startled.

The Untouchable - Part 11

Roop's mom stayed quiet while Roop spoke colourfully about her friendship with Varun. She had never seen her so happy. Roop's smile was radiant and glowing from inside. She knew it instantly. She had been through the same phase. She had the same radiant smile when she fell in love with Roop's father. Love had betrayed her. She had nothing to lose. She had nothing to look forward. Her life had gone standstill until Roop came into her life. She didn't want her to lead her life. Roop had everything at stake. She didn't want to Roop to lose everything for silly love. She had to make this stop.

It was one of the sleepless night for Varun. He was contemplating on whether he should let her know about his feelings. He felt stupid about what he did today. He couldn't control himself. He didn't see whether it was right time to share what he felt. He didn't even bother to see that her mother was present. He had an opportunity before her mom arrived to share his feelings. When he had finally decided, he couldn't speak. He was still. He had to shed the burden out. He couldn't keep the feelings hidden anymore. He took long breaths and decided to share the feeling next day.

Roop was getting ready for last day of shoot. She had finally decided to share her feelings. After last night debacle, she couldn't handle herself. She had one day left and she couldn't spoil this. She had practiced what she would say many times. Every time she said, it sounded funny. She prayed for things to go smoothly. Many times she thought that he would rebuke her advances and then a light of hope appear in heart that gave her courage.

She had five minutes for the shoot to begin. She looked at her reflection on the mirror. She seemed confident and ready.  She started towards Varun's office. Suddenly she felt the door of her make up room open. She was excited. "It maybe him. Thank god! You bought him here. Now I can tell him.", she thought. Her heart was beating faster. She was shivering and trembling due to fear. She was remembering the words she was going to use to say her feelings out.

To her dismay, it turned out to be her mom. She was disappointed but she did not lose hope. "Ma, How come you are here? The shoot hasn't yet started.",she said. "I know.", her mom replied , walking closer to her. She held Roop's face when she was closer. "When did you grow so big that you are hiding things from me?", her mom asked. "I didn't hide anything. You know everything that's happening in my life.", she lied. "Not everything! You didn't tell me that you like Varun!", her mom said. Roop was stunned. " I don't..", she was about to lie when her mom spoke, " Don't lie. Your face speaks the truth. I know you love him. I have seen your eyes sparkle and your face glow when you are with him."

"Yes, I do love him! I have never felt like this before. I feel complete with him. ", she spoke the truth at last. She couldn't hide any longer from her mother. She felt shameful for hiding the truth. "You have to forget him. He is not right for you.", her mom said. The words of her mom hit her sharply. The pain was unbearable. She fell on the floor with shock. She didn't say anything. She felt nothing except pain and anger. She wanted to burst out the anger. Instead tears rolled out from her eyes.

The Untouchable - Part 10

She lay on the bed with one arm on her head. She was dreaming about what had happened with eyes open. Her eyes were dozing off . She didn't want to sleep. She didn't want to switch off her mind . She wanted to remember those moments. She wanted to keep them close to her heart.

After months of fighting with her feelings for him, she had finally lost the war.  She felt her heartbeat race faster and body shudder whenever she was close to him. She missed him like a wanderer in desert searching for an oasis. She needed him as well as not want him at same time. She felt strong connection toward him - an attraction she couldn't avoid.

She wanted to share that feeling with him but the thought of rejection dampened her desires. "What if he never felt anything like what I felt! What if he would ridiculed me if I shared my feeling! No! I need to stop this. He is my friend. I don't want to lose a good friend.", she thought.

Few miles away from her abode at the same time, he was thinking about her. Memories of her smile, her eyes and her chirpiness warmed his soul.  Happiness in her voice, the rhythm of her giggles and her beautiful soul lit his hidden feelings. He had admired her for her beauty when he first laid eyes on her. Now he adored , worshiped and loved her after getting to know her inside and out.

He wanted to spill out his feeling for her. He had tried many occasions. Sometimes luck was not favorable and sometimes his fear took the lead. With the final day of shoot coming closer, his heart panicked. He didn't want to stay apart from her. He wanted to spend more time. He tried to find some free time between the shoots to spend with her. Sometimes his heart broke when work came in between them. However when he found some time with her, he would wish time to stand still.

They were finally alone. The shoot ended smoothly. Everyone had left except for few. Roop and Varun were joking around at his makeshift office. They were giggling and teasing each other while sharing dinner together. The time flew fast. They were deeply engrossed in their talk that they didn't bother to wash their hands after dinner. Suddenly, Roop's mom arrived without knocking. They were startled by her arrival. "Ma! How come you are here?", Roop asked. Roop's mom smiled nervously and replied,"I was worried about you. You didn't respond any of my calls." "Sorry Ma!", she said and bid Varun goodbye. As she was about to leave, he grabbed her hand suddenly. She turned back and held his gaze for long time before they realized her mom was waiting for her. He wanted to say something but he couldn't speak out. He mumbled, "Sorry" and let her go. Her mom understood what was going on. Her greatest fear was turning true.

The Untouchable - Part 9

He dragged her towards his car and pushed her to the passenger seat. She was anxious. She tried to ask him where he was taking her during the journey. He didn't seem to mind her inquisitive questioning. Later she got tired of asking him and stayed quiet. He stopped at a ground.

The ground was beautifully decorated with candle lights. He led her on rose covered path to the center of the ground  where bouquet of roses and birthday cake lay on the table. She was surprised. No one knew about her birthday except her mom and the manager.

He offered her the bouquet and hugged her. "Happy Birthday!", he whispered to her ears. She gently pushed her self out from the embrace and asked," How do you know?" " I know you are private person. But you are famous too. There are some sneaky paparazzi who have followed you closely and  publish private information like your birthday to crazy fans like me.", he said. She was struck when she heard the word 'fan'. Her face blushed and heart raced faster every second. Tiny goosebumps appeared on her soft skin.

"You are my fan?". she asked timidly. "Who is not your fan. You are most beautiful actress of our era. Everyone loves you.", he said , almost spilling out his feelings. "Now can you cut the cake?", he asked. She smiled and cut the cake. She offered him a piece and wished him too.  She had just turned her face to other side for a minute. Suddenly, he quickly took a small piece of cake and smudged on her face gently. It was too late for her to realize what was happening.

Instead of getting annoyed, she took another piece and smudged it back. They laughed and giggled like two teenagers while applying the cake cream on each other's face playfully. After all those fun,
they had candle lit dinner. The atmosphere was filled with hidden romance and nervousness of hiding their feeling from each other. They chatted until they realized it was time to go home.

When he reached her place, they didn't want to part. There was silence though both of them wanted to share their feelings. They looked at each other's eyes, wishing that time didn't pass until she forced herself to get out of the car. She waited until his car was out of her sight. His party continued til late in night. His friends asked him about his sudden disappearance. He lied to them, saying he needed fresh air and rushed towards his room. He replayed today's special events as soon as he was alone.

The Untouchable - Part 8

His surprised reaction turned into smile. "Has anyone ever called you mischievous?", he asked jokingly. He gently squeezed her cheeks. She wasn't annoyed. Moreover she was surprised why she didn't react. She hated when anyone squeezed her cheeks. But today she liked it. It bought in tingling feeling to her heart. She smiled and replied," Nope. Except mom, you are the only one who has called me mischievous."

During her ride to home, her manager noticed her smiling and asked, "I have never seen you so cheerful and happy. Are you enjoying the work?" " What do you mean? I have always enjoyed work,", she said. "I didn't mean anything. You were always tired and aloof. You would do your work and come back home. You wouldn't even speak to your co- stars. But now it seems like you have changed for better. Everyone is noticing that. This is good opportunity to get more work by networking.", her manager said. She didn't say anything. She pretended to be busy with her thoughts.

She was engrossed in thoughts, events and remarks her manager made today. She hadn't noticed these changes. It was true that she was cold person and never mixed with people. Working with Varun had slowly changed her. She was diligent at work. She was mingling with people. She was becoming warm and friendly person. The cold snob mask she wore had come out. It was good change. But she was getting close to Varun. She had never shown too much concern for anyone. She had never played a prank on anyone. She had never advised anyone. Moreover, she had never allowed anyone to be extremely close to her.

Today's gentle squeeze on her cheek raised her heartbeat. "Why am I overreacting? He squeezed my cheek like a friend does.", she wondered and dismissed any such feelings. She made mental note to be careful with her feelings. She didn't want any such feelings to rise and take charge of her. She had more important things to concentrate.

                        ********  Few months later  *******

It was Varun's birthday as well as her birthday.  He had invited whole crew for his birthday party.  His birthdays were known for wild parties while her birthday was something that only her mom and manager knew. Her mom celebrated her birthday usual way. She bought a cake and gift before Roop could leave for the promotional event. She cut the cake and opened her present excitedly. It was glittering Swaroski bracelet. She loved Swaroski accessories and the bracelet was her favorite. Roop hugged her mom and rushed towards the party when she realized that she was getting late.

The party was huge affair, All the big stars were present in his party. The paparazzi waited at the front of his bungalow like hungry dogs for glimpse of the stars while the music blared out inside his bungalow. Roop felt like a misfit in the party. She wasn't used to loud blaring noise or half drunk crowd getting close to her. She decided to head back home when she felt someone drag her outside. It was Varun. They reached the backyard of his bungalow. She was stunned to find herself alone with him. "Finally! Come with me. I have something for you.", he dragged her hand.

The Untouchable - Part 7

He closed the drawer with the bang when he came back to his senses. "What was I thinking? She is a star and it isn't ethical. I am no longer a fan. I am her director.", he scolded himself. He tried to push those thoughts away. But they came back whenever he tried harder. He lay on the bed and tried to close his eyes. He wasn't able to sleep.

The night wasn't too long. When the drowsiness led him to close his eyes, the alarm rang. It was already morning. He hadn't slept the whole night. He reached the film studio with red eyes and drowsy face. He had taken cold water bath and drank hot coffee. But drowsiness didn't shy off. Every few minutes when he found time alone, he would close his eyes.

Everyone asked him to sleep. He was stubborn. He didn't listen and continue to work. When everyone were done with advising him, Roop spoke, "Why don't you take rest?" "I am fine.", he said. "Have you seen yourself? You were not feeling well yesterday. Today you are not even in good shape to work.", she said. "Are you a doctor? I am fine.", he snapped. "Fine! Whatever!", she said and walked away.

During lunch, Roop was chatting with her co-stars, "He is stubborn! I only advised him for his good and he snapped at me just like that.""He is not listening to anyone. Everyone tried to persuade him. Anyone leave him.", one of them said.

It was drama scene. Varun was watching the screen to check if the characters were on positions. He was having his sixteenth coffee and rubbed his eyes infinite times. He cursed love. It had taken his sleep and peace of mind. He couldn't concentrate on work and felt bad for snapping at Roop. He wanted to apologize.

It was Roop's turn to say the dialogues. She started with the first line. Before she could complete her lines, she fainted. "Cut it!", he yelled and rushed towards her. He sprinkled few drops of water on the face. She regained her consciousness and slowly opened her eyes. "How are you feeling?", he asked. "I am fine.", she replied. "I will call your driver. You can go home and take rest.", he said. "I don't need rest. You need. So you go home and take rest.", she said. "Are you joking?", he asked. She smiled and replied,"I was joking. I am fit and fine."

The Untouchable - Part 6

The music ended. She finished her dance with a signature move. She and the background dancers waited for his instruction. He was spellbound. He had never found her so beautiful until today. He could imagine the feel of her soft delicate skin, her almond gaze and luscious red lips. Every time he imagined, his heart missed a beat.

Suddenly he came back to senses and said, "Cut! Let's pack up!" The crew was startled. They had a midnight shoot to complete. They weren't able to comprehend why Varun called off the shoot. "Maybe I did something wrong?", Roop doubted.

She left the studio with mind full of thoughts and concern. "What did I do wrong, again?", she questioned herself. She recalled all the things that happened over the day. She had practiced the steps diligently. She was on time for the shoot. She had also rehearsed her lines for the midnight shoot. The song sequence turned out perfect.Everyone had praised her. Then what had gone wrong? Why did he call of the shoot. "I don't understand this guy.", she thought angrily when she didn't find any mistakes in her. Later she again condemned herself for assuming that everything went perfectly. "Maybe he didn't find it perfect.", she thought.

Varun lay quietly on the couch in his room. He had declined to have dinner with his dad. He wanted to be in recluse. He tried to clear his mind. While he was still thinking about his day, his cellphone rang.  It was her call. He didn't want to talk. He picked it up immediately without seeing the caller name. "How many times do I need to remind you that I don't want to talk to anyone?", he yelled.

It was Roop. "I am sorry.. I..will .. call you back later.", she stammered. He felt guilt as soon as he realized it was Roop. "Wait! I am sorry. I didn't realize it was you. I thought it was one of my assistant.", he said apologetically. "Are you fine? You seemed disturbed and call off the shoot suddenly. I was wondering whether we could re-shoot the song again if you want. I know you didn't like it.", she asked. "No, it was perfect. I wasn't feeling well. These shoots and planning over last few weeks were hectic. So I was feeling tired.", he lied. "Oh! I understand. You work so hard. Why don't you take off tomorrow. I mean if you want to. Health is important.", she said. "I will see.", he smiled. "Ok!Take rest. I will see you tomorrow.", she said and hung up.

As soon as the call ended, he smiled like teenager who has fallen in love for the first time. He walked towards his work desk and opened one of drawers. There were magazines with pictures of Roop. He looked at them. The hidden feeling called crush resurfaced again. That feeling was strong when he had first seen her dance in one of teenage movies. He had become one of her crazy devoted fan. He would collect all the magazines that contained her pictures or interviews. He would save the videos of award shows where she danced. He would watch her movies numerous times until he had memorized all the lines of the heroes. However as soon as he assisted his father with his work and worked towards his dream, he locked all those feeling deep inside where he would never find. However today's event had brought back that feeling again. This time it was stronger than the last time.

The Untouchable - Part 5

The next morning she received unexpected surprise. She received bouquet of roses and box of her favorite chocolate muffins. She smiled as she read the name of sender and the message . It read - ' I am sorry. - Varun'. She was surprised at this gesture. She never expected him to be warm.

She was punctual for the shoot this time. Before she started with the shoot, she proceeded towards his office. He was busy discussing with one of his assistant. "Hi! I need to talk to you.", she said. He nodded and asked the assistant to leave them alone. When they were alone, she spoke, "Thanks. But you didn't have to do that." "I thought you were still angry with me. Are you angry with me?", he said softly. "No, I am not. By the way, how did you know chocolate muffins are my favorite.", she asked.
"You are public figure. Your likes and dislikes are always the selling material of the movie magazines.", he replied.

She smiled. "How come you are on time?", he asked. "I promised you yesterday that I would cooperate with you. Let's start shooting. I don't want us to delay the schedule.", she said while heading back to the studio. He smiled while patting her back.

The shooting was getting more easier day by day. As promised by her, she was on time for all the shoots, took few retakes and hardly threw any tantrums. Everyone was amazed. She was learning to smile. She was learning to respect. She was slowly opening up. The rude obnoxious star was turning into new leaf due to company of new friendship.

It was dance sequence which would be used for the promotion of movie. She wore golden mini dress that displayed her curves. Her eyes were made smoky. The make up wasn't too much or too less. It didn't overshadow her real beauty. She looked like goddess.

When the music started, everything stood still. She danced like nymphs - delicate and elegant. The song was soft love song depicting the one sided love of the woman. The dance was contemporary and her moves expressed the lyrics of song perfectly.  Everyone was awe of her beauty and dance including Varun.

The Untouchable - Part 4

It was indoor shoot. A very important sequence of the movie was being shot. The set was perfectly designed as per Varun's idea. The chandeliers, the curved stairway and the furniture gave the eerie effect. It looked more real than a movie set. This is what Varun wanted. Everything was perfect except Roop. She was giving him hard time. After all what happened, he expected her to change her working style. She was still the same.

It was 50th take. She wasn't able to give the particular expression he wanted. "Cut it! Cut it! What are you doing, Roop? How many times should I explain you the scenario? It is easy direct two year old kid than directing you. Even two year old kid can act this scene better than you. The jury must be crazy to give you award every year or maybe you must have bribed them. ", he said furiously.

She yanked the microphone attached to her body and threw it across him. She barged out of the studio while Varun continued to insult her, "There she goes again. Those rumours about you are right. You are tantrum star." The assistant followed her quickly. The crew began to gossip again. A senior co star, Dev, who was also working on same scene , approached Varun,"That wasn't right. You scolded her. Fine. We have director who loose cool. But you don't have right to tarnish her image in front of everyone. She's been working in this industry for years. She worked hard to build that image. Those awards she received are the recognition of that image. She is fine actress. Every actor has a bad day. Even she is having one."

"Leave me alone", she yelled at the assistant who tried to console her.  She banged the door and locked herself inside. She sat down on the floor while her white long dress spilled across the floor. Tears welled up in her almond shaped eyes. She cried hard. Suddenly she heard light knocks on the door. "I told you to leave me alone.", she yelled until her mouth was dry. The knock continued. After few minutes, she opened the door. It was Varun.

"I don't want to talk to anyone.", she said. She tried to close the door, but Varun pushed himself in.
"What do you want?", she screamed. "I am sorry. I didn't mean to hurt you.", he apologized. "Everyone says that after hurting others.", she said sarcastically. "Listen, I am frustrated. The schedules are not going as per planned. We are already delaying. And you are being difficult to me. How am I supposed to complete my shoot if you don't cooperate?", he said.

She didn't respond and turned her back towards him. He was about to head back when she finally spoke up, "I am sorry too. I have been too hard on you. I will cooperate from now on." He gave a reassuring smile and headed back to studio.

The Untouchable - Part 3

Roop sulked. She didn't want to go back. Her ego was bruised and it would break if she would go there. The 'tough girl' image would break. Unfortunately convincing her mom was also not a cake walk. "Asking forgiveness is easy than convincing mom to change her decision.", she thought. She did as she was asked.

She reached the office after painful journey. Her mind contemplated about whether to go or not. She didn't want to upset her mom. Her mom was the pillar stone in her life. She had never seen her father. The only thing her mom said about her father was that he had succumbed to wishes of his dominating mother by marrying his mother's choice and leaving her mom when Roop was infant. After that episode, there was never looking back. Roop was spotted by ad director when she was in market with her mom . She was only five when she bagged her first ad. After modelling and appearing in many ads, she got her first movie when she was ten. Her mom became her unofficial manager and mentor.

"Why didn't you stop her?", his producer asked. His producer. Anant was middle aged man with pot bellied stomach. He wore plain white shirt and trousers all days as he believed wearing white bought him luck. He stared at Varun with big eyes for answer. He didn't want to lose her. She was lucky mascot for his movie. Varun pretended to be busy with his phone. "I am asking you something. She is amazing actress. She has huge fan following. This movie will be huge hit if she is there. You don't know how the industry works.", Anant said.

Varun couldn't digest this. He finally spoke, "What! But few days back, you had said that movie will work because of my script. Now you are giving all the credit to her. What are you saying, uncle!" Anant was his youngest uncle and adored Varun as he had no children. When he had learnt that Varun wanted to direct a movie, he had offered to produce the movie. "No son, I didn't mean that. For a movie to work, you need good script as well as good actors. Roop is perfect for that role.", Anant coaxed. Varun didn't agree.

Suddenly their argument was cut short. His assistant opened the door and said, "Sorry to disturb you, Varun. Roop is here to meet you. She says it's urgent."  Before Varun could refuse, Anant asked her to send Roop. The tantrum actress arrived like a tamed bull. "What is it you want?", Varun asked rudely. Roop stared at him with disgust. Anant nudged him and spoke, "Sorry Roop for Varun's behaviour. We were talking about you few minutes back. What would you like? Tea or soft drink?"

"No, I don't need anything. I came here to say sorry and ask whether the role is still vacant.", she asked softly. "I am sorry, Varun. I am really very sorry.", she continued. Varun wanted to play more difficult with her. "I didn't hear you. Can you repeat what you said.", Varun said. Roop was furious. Before things could go worse, Anant spoke," Why are you saying sorry, Roop. You are still a part of the movie. Varun was playing with you. He wants you to be the part of the movie." Varun looked at his uncle with disbelief. "Come on, son. It's too much of you. Shake hands with her and make up.", Anant said. Varun nodded and shook hands with her. He had formally forgiven her but not from his heart.

The Untouchable - Part 2

Everyone were surprised. Varun was known for his calm and patience. He never broke down in pressured situation. But today even 'the cool cucumber' boy broke down. The faint whispers of the people reached the vanity van where Roop was waiting. Everyone blamed Roop for her starry tantrums and irresponsible behaviour.

Roop was annoyed. She barged into Varun's make shift office while her manager ran behind her to stop. It was too late. The storm broke loose. "Who do you think you are? How dare you cancel the shoot? You think I have all the time for your scumbag project.", she screamed. He got up and stood close to her. She was intimidated but she didn't back down.  She held herself though her heart beat faster. "I am the director and you are the actress. We both knew that it was early morning shoot. We both agreed to come early for the shoot unless you inform me about your prior engagements. But you didn't. And let me correct you, we .. I mean , my crew and I don't have time for your careless attitude. We don't work for you. You and I are also part of the crew. We work as a team. You got that!", he said firmly.

She sighed a relief when he turned his back towards her. "No one spoke to me like that. I am not working for your film. I am leaving.", she fumed and walked out towards her vehicle. He didn't turn back to stop her.

*****

She relaxed on the couch. She blew cool air on her freshly painted fingernails. Everything was pleasant at last. The morning episode had taken toll on her. Her mind froze. She never had anyone treat her this way .  She was child star. Fortune and fame smiled at her quite early. Her beauty and innocence captivated everyone and acting came naturally to her. It was something she knew since she was born. Work didn't stop coming even as she grew up.

However with the new arrivals of debutante stars and star kids, she was losing some quite lucrative offers. Her attitude towards work was also getting worse from  day to day. Her tantrums made her difficult to work with. Those who knew her ignored those tantrums while others ignored her.

"How the hell can you sit so calmly? Who asked you to quit the movie?", a feminine voice spoke aloud. She got up from couch quickly and turned back to see her mom. Her mom bore same similarities as her except for the wrinkles and few strands of grey hair. "Go back now and compromise with the director before it is too late. Ask for forgiveness. Even if you have to beg, beg for it. I don't want you to loose this offer.", her mom said.

The Untouchable - Part 1

It was 5 am. The sun had not risen from it's slumber. The weather was cold and misty , just as he wanted the shoot to be. Everything was ready. Everyone were ready except the main lead of his movie - the heroine. All the preparations for the shoot was done as per his plans. But the actress was missing. He had reminded her manager about the timing many times. He had also personally asked her to be on time. And again she was late for the shoot. He waited for another one hour while his assistants called her persistently.

"Varun, the manager said that they will be here any moment.", his assistant said. He flung the script papers in the air. He had too much of this shit. He couldn't take this longer. He had been too sweet with her because of her status. Now he had to show her who the boss is.

It was his debut movie. With the legendary surname (due to his father being a famous director cum actor) attached to his name, he had got everything to launch his career - finance, producers, distributors, music composers, singers and actors from the first class guild of movie industry. He knew how the industry worked since the time he was a small child. He had seen through the eyes of his father. He was struck by the glamour and magic of making movies. He knew what he wanted to be during the time when kids were not sure what they wanted to be.

She arrived after four hours. She wore snobbish look. Her sharp grey eyes were covered by the dark black shades.  Her face was clear with no signs of any pimples, acne or zits. Her straight black hair with highlights of brown and red was tied in a ponytail. Not a single strands of hair fell on her face. She wore complete black - black sweatshirt with black track pants. The sweatshirt covered her petite figure while the track pants covered her long toned legs. She was epitome of beauty and was rightly named as Roop.

She headed directly towards her vanity van. Her manager followed her. "You should have at least visited Varun first . He is very angry.", her manager said. She didn't feel any guilt. She was a star. She didn't feel the need to report to anyone. "Why should I meet Varun? Who is he? I am a star. He is just a newbie director of famous star. He thinks that everything will work according to his ways! No way!", she said furiously.

"Varun, she's arrived. Shall we get ready with the shoot?", one of Varun's assistant asked. "Pack up! We will cancel the shoot for today.", he said and stormed towards his makeshift office.
